At the very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure
-- Christopher McCandless
The thirst for new, exciting experiences is part of our DNA. Humans are designed to seek adventure. For most of the 2.5 million or so years humans have been around, we have been nomads. Humans were tethered to the meanderings and vicissitudes of herds, flocks, the availability of foraged edibles, and climatic shifts. People traveled, ate, and lived light. Then around ten thousand years ago, an agricultural revolution changed everything.
We started making land produce food that exceeded subsistence levels. People stopped moving so much and began building houses close to our crops. We created surpluses of food and some people started making stuff other than food, so humanity started to advance. Those non-food producers needed a place to live, so they made villages. Those villages became cities.
Many of us feel trapped by society. The pressure to conform to certain standards can be stifling. We yearn for adventure and exploration, but often feel like we can't pursue those things. We're amazed by stories of great adventurers because they remind us that there's so much more to life than what we're currently experiencing. Their courage and determination inspire us to break free from our own limitations and explore the world.
To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.
-- Bill Bryson
In the last two years, we have seen a shift in life priorities. For hundreds of years, ambitious young people have had to move to immediate geographic colocation with employers to access the best jobs for their skills and talents. That is suddenly no longer true. This newfound flexibility has triggered the “Great Resignation”, where people prioritized other factors over professional considerations. Many people are voting with their feet and moving away from traditional economic hub cities to different cities, towns, or rural areas, with no diminishment of economic opportunity.
Now that we are able to work from anywhere what's stopping us?
Gypsy was created to allow 21st century adventures embark on their journey across the world. We do this by breaking the shackles that prevent you from doing this: Your home.
You may not realize it, but your home owns you. You have to make mortgage payments, pay for repairs, and keep it clean. If you don't do these things, your home will fall into disrepair and you could lose it. But then the question arises: why even get a home in the first place?
You own a home because the only other alternative is to rent a home. While you can travel the world by hopping from Airbnb to Airbnb, you are building no wealth. The transfer of wealth is always that from a renter to an owner.
Gypsy makes a brand new option. You can now have the flexibility of renting while also building wealth. One in which after a lifetime of adventures, one can exchange the accumulated wealth for a forever home.
Now that there is an option to work and live anywhere, we can return to our roots as nomads. We can become global citizens that call the world our home.
The world is a big, beautiful place. There are so many amazing things to see and do. And, there are so many amazing people to meet. When you explore the world, you open yourself up to new possibilities. You learn about different cultures and see things that you never would have imagined. It's an exciting and amazing experience. And, when you meet new people from all over the world, you realize that we are all connected. We all have something in common. We all want to be happy and fulfilled.
“Of all the books in the world. The best stories are found between the pages of a passport.”
Go out and explore the world. We only have one chance to experience so you might as well experience it to the fullest.
